It sounds like the start of a joke. It is the start of this shop.
We are Corey and Krista. Corey served in the Army, then spent the years after building and defending systems as a cyber engineer, the kind of work where "close enough" is how things fail. Krista, co-owner and the standard behind every chair, has had shears in her hands since 2006. She is state-licensed in both cosmetology and barbering, a certified Redken colorist, and a Master Barber since 2019.
We built our own chair so we could do right by our clients and by each other. It began just before COVID in 2020, with a line of grooming products: a wash, an oil and a butter in five scents, each named for a well-known military post that came to mind as its notes were developed. Historic Downtown Madison gave us room to bring our vision to life, a place where our products and the shop we wanted to build together could grow.
Service members and first responders were among our first regulars, and giving back to those who gave so much was part of the purpose from the very first day. The hot towel and straight razor came from somewhere real: an old-timey barbershop just off post that Corey used during his years at Fort Bliss. The idea was simple and stubborn: run a barbershop the way a good unit runs. A standard everyone trains to. A finish you can inspect. An appointment that starts on time because your time matters.
The neighbors noticed. Alabama voted the shop Best of Alabama, then did it again the next year. Four hundred and forty-three reviews later, the average sits at 4.9.
It is still a family shop: the two of us, our daughters and son lending a hand now and then, a short list of barbers held to Krista's standard, and a back room where Corey builds the systems that keep the front room calm. It is not everyone's shop, and it was never meant to be. It is yours, if you hold yourself to a standard too.

On licensing
Most of our team holds both a barber and a cosmetology license, so a cut, a beard, a straight razor finish and color can all happen in one chair, in one appointment.
